And time again I find words in TIME that I think are not well chosen.
In the Oct. 14 issue, in the seventh of "7 questions to pnder" p.34:
"One side argues this war could stanch terrorism, while another
argues it could breed it."Stanch" can mean "check" or "stop" but seems not as
good a choice as "check". Perhaps the most common use of "stanch"
is to stop bleeding, to stop the loss of something valuable. Surely
terrorism is not something valuable.
