OP Does anybody else remember being told that as a child? My grandmother (who was from the south of Scotland) used it a lot. It means something like "Be careful not to spill anything on your clothes while you're eating." I also remember "You've slittered" being used when someone had spilt something. I've never met anyone who knows this sense of the word or managed to find it in a dictionary.
