MEANING: adjective: Thick, dark, and scary.

ETYMOLOGY: Coined by Lewis Carroll in the poem “Jabberwocky” in the book Through the Looking-Glass, perhaps as a blend of tough/turgid + bulgy. Earliest documented use: 1871.
