When I come home one night
I was tired as a man can be
I saw a hat on the dresser
Where my hat suppose to be

I said "Wake up, Baby
Explain all this stuff to me,
Whose hat is that on the dresser
Where my hat, suppose to be?"

She said "you must be silly, you talk like funny,
Why don't you open up your eyes and see.
You know that hat, ain't nothing but a wash pan
That my mother-in-law sunt to me."

Well I've been all over the World
And the Gulf of Mexico
But I ain't never saw no wash pan
With no hatband around it befo'.

The next night when I come home
I was tired as a man can be
I saw a mule in my stable
Where my mule suppose to be
I said "Wake up, little girl
Explain all this stuff to me
Whose mule is that in my stable
Where my mule, suppose to be?"

She said " You must silly - Daddy you ain't talking right,
Why don't you open up your eyes and see?
You know that mule, ain't nothing but a milk cow
That my grandmother, sunt to me".

I've been all, over the World
And the Gulf of Mexico
But I ain't never saw no milk cow
With no saddle on its back befo'
