Dear me, most of these subtleties of usage have passed me by. I quite regularly use the quote tag to quote someone. If I need to quote more than one person to set the context for my remarks then I generally colour code to differentiate between them.

Helen, you didn't mention the use of white for material not everyone may wish to read immediately (because it's the answer to a puzzle or is an aside).
