yes, mav, i knew the word. the first house i lived in (as a married woman) was inside the old glebe of St. anne church, in the bronx --one of the older churches (outside of manhattan--The church still boasted an alter donated by queen Anne.

after the revolutionary war, (and seperation of church and state) the glebe was sold off. but the property line was still 'marked' by Glebe Avenue.
