I'm speaking of the names we give certain groups of animals (and possibly plants, but I'm no botanist). Some current favourites include cetaceans and pinnipeds, and since tortoise shells were mentioned, chelonians. And then (as a sort of neat segue) the remarkable set of animal-alike adjectives - equine, porcine, vulpine, aquiline, lupine and so on. Bovine above all, of course...
