kaddish n. 5Aram kadish, lit., holy, akin to Heb kadosh, holy root kdt, sanctify6 Judaism a hymn in praise of God, recited as part of the daily service or, in one form, a mourner‘s prayer
From the Internet: "The final period of formal mourning is avelut, which is observed only for a parent. This period lasts for twelve months after the burial. During that time, mourners avoid parties, celebrations, theater and concerts. For eleven months of that period, starting at the time of burial, the son of the deceased recites the mourner's Kaddish every day. "

Many yeas ago there were sociology and criminolgy papers that portrayed the Jukes and Kallikak familes as archtypes of familial degeneracy. Later studies showed that these papers were seriously flawed and dishonest. Now the names are occasionally used as jocular insults.

The Kathak dance form originated in the north and at first was very similar to the Bharatanatyam. Persian and Muslim influences later altered the dance from a temple ritual to a courtly entertainment. The influence of the Mughal tradition is evident in this dance form, and it has a distinct Hindu-Muslim texture.

What would it be to layer things, one on top of the other? Is there a --pose word that shows vertical positioning?
Just asking, WW

There was once an unusual restaurant near Tampa, Florida, called 'The Kapok Tree.' I remember enormous dining rooms, gardens with huge caryatids and the t-word-related equivalents--telemons or something like that?
The Kapok tree was a dining adventure, not so much for the food, which was average at best, but because of the rooms and the gardens. I heard it had closed down, which is too bad because it was a lark to go there and walk all around.

How about superimpose?
"Juxta-" means "next to," I think. In the kidney there is the "juxtaglomerular apparatus" which helps regulate the blood pressure, and it's right next to the glomerulus.
Edit: Oh well. Six minutes late. At least I can still qualify with juxtaglomerular.

Laminate = like plywood Suprapose is not in my dictionary, but could be coined. Stratify might graify.

Wonderful! Superimpose is just right. Thanks to both of you, and, wwh, I was just posing a positional question--and the posse came in at about the same time.
Now I wonder whether there's a diagonal positioning --pose word?

When I was living in Bandung, there was a shop nearby that collected kapok locally and stuffed mattresses with it. I can testify that they are very comfortable, though they do need frequent airing. You can see a picture of a kapok tree and the fluffy seed pods here http://www.creitb.or.id/Biodiesel/Vegetasi/kapok.htm Bingley
