Chick Hearn created the phrases

which are fundamental to the basketball lexicon.

I have frequently heard the expression 'coined a phrase', rarely do I see 'created'.
Sparteye, what's your reasoning behind your choice of wording here AND (for extra credit), where did the phrase 'coined a phrase/word/etc.' come from??

(for extra credit), where did the phrase 'coined a phrase/word/etc.' come from??From wordorigins.com: The verb to coin originally meant to literally mint a coin. It dates to the 14th century. In the late-16th century, the sense generalized to become to create or invent something. In 1940 the specific usage of coin a phrase came into use.Oh goody! I hope that extra credit will get me out of homeroom this week; I have to decorate the gym for the prom. Only 66 more days until hoops start.
