(or in remembrance of elitist games)

PM me def'ns for the word retiarius.

it being a holiday week for many, I'll leave the entry period arbitrarily open-ended (take note, milum!).

[ retiarius ]

Thank you tswum, but this time I won't be needing a deadline extension. I know this word well, and coincidentally it is a word that I used just this past week.

This time I plan to enter the very first definition of the contest and I will send it to you just as soon as I hang up here.

SEE you later under the quarter moon by the crooked river, tsuwm. -

Nice bluff, milum! But it won't snag you my vote!

Mine, either. I can tell which one is yours every time! Now, that sounds suspiciously like a challenge, doesn't it?

Unless he has put in the same as me (which I doubt) then Milum is most certainly bluffing!!

Just as I thought Whit-O, you skipped school the day they taught "reverse psychology".

Mine, either. I can tell which one is yours every time! - consuello

Is that true Consue? Well then why don't you vote with the compassion born of your deep insight into my words of trickery and deceit and cast a vote of kindness for my answer. That kind act will demonstrate to all that I am transparent and you, in the hearts of everyone, will then become the one and only real and true winner.

Sorry Rhubarb, the Hogmaster has already indicated to me that you and I have sent in the same definition. Both wrong! Witness the letter below to my good friend the Hogmaster.

Dear Hogmaster,

Please disregard the definition that I sent you that was the same as the one that Rhubarb sent. In it's place use the definition I will be sending forth with.

Thanks for the tip,
Milum

gakareeni! I have seen Hogwash mentioned before, but am uncertain as to the rules. Here is what I have gleaned:

1. It has to do with a word, chosen by the original poster.
2. People who wish to play, send their definitions of said word to the original poster by PM.

What I am unclear on, is this: are we trying to come up with the real definition, or one that sounds eminently plausible but that we have made up? The latter seems more likely but, like, y'never know, y'know? [snapping gum and twirling hair-e]

Let us go in peace to love and serve the board.

okay, I see that I should have reposted a link to the rules. (otoh, they are out there to be LIUed). anyways, here are the rules:

http://wordsmith.org/board/showthreaded.pl?Cat=&Board=wordplay&Number=29261

and a note regarding strategy: if you should, by some odd set of circumstances, just happen to "know" the word: send me your best effort at a daffynition and then, when voting time comes, vote for the actual definition if you can deal with the guilt that comes with that. this will, don't you see, maximize your scoring potential, if that's your bag.

this is round twennysumtin.

NOTE: rule 5 seems to come into play here -- I would hate to throw the round out under these circumstances; would the two of you who submitted the real def'n like to resubmit def'ns of your own making and we can wing it from there? the other option is to throw out your entries.

seeing as milum has finally slow-pitched his def'n to me, I think I will now set a deadline for entries; say midnight CDT on July 13.

Thank you, tsuwm, for the extension. My mind has been elsewheres...not that I'll find it, but.
