Wake up , Little Suzie, wake up;
wake up, little Suzie, wake up;
We've both been sound asleep -
Wake up little Suzie and weep -
the movie's over, it's four o'clock,
and we're in trouble deep --
Wake up Little Suzie;
We gotta go home.

SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES
The Drifters
(writers Mann, Weil; 1964)

Well Saturday night at 8 o'clock
I know where I'm gonna go
I'm gonna pick my baby up
And take her to the picture show

Everybody in the neighbourhood
Is dressing up to be there too
And we're gonna have a ball
Just like we always do

Chorus:
Saturday night at the movies
Who cares what picture you see
When you're hugging with your baby in last row in the balcony

Well there's technicolor and cinemascope
A cast out of Hollywood
And the popcorn from the candy stand
Makes it all seem twice as good

There's always lots of pretty girls
With figures they don't try to hide
But they never can compare
To the girl sittin' by my side

Saturday Night (Is the Loneliest Night of the Week)

Saturday night is the loneliest night in the week
'Cause that's the night that my sweetie and I
Used to dance cheek to cheek
I don't mind Sunday night at all
'Cause that's the night friends come to call
And Monday to Friday go fast
And another week is past

But Saturday night is the loneliest night in the week
I sing the song that I sang for the memories I usually seek
Until I hear you at the door
Until you're in my arms once more
Saturday night is the loneliest night in the week

mmmm... Saturday night is the loneliest night in the week
I sing the song that I sang for the memories I usually seek
Until I hear you at the door
Until you're in my arms once more
Saturday night is the loneliest night in the week

Until I hear you at the door
Until you're in my arms once more
Saturday night is the loneliest night in the week

Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting)

Music by Elton John
Lyrics by Bernie Taupin
Available on the album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

It's getting late have you seen my mates
Ma tell me when the boys get here
It's seven o'clock and I want to rock
Want to get a belly full of beer

My old man's drunker than a barrel full of monkeys
And my old lady she don't care
My sister looks cute in her braces and boots
A handful of grease in her hair

Don't give us none of your aggravation
We had it with your discipline
Saturday night's alright for fighting
Get a little action in

Get about as oiled as a diesel train
Gonna set this dance alight
`Cause Saturday night's the night I like
Saturday night's alright alright alright

Well they're packed pretty tight in here tonight
I'm looking for a dolly who'll see me right
I may use a little muscle to get what I need
I may sink a little drink and shout out "She's with me!"

A couple of the sound that I really like
Are the sounds of a switchblade and a motorbike
I'm a juvenile product of the working class
Whose best friend floats in the bottom of a glass

It's Saturday night, all the kids are going down
Put on your bright suit, Billy, head for the right side of town
It's only eight o'clock but you're already bored
You don't know what it is, but there's gotta be more
You better find a way out
Hey! kick down the door
It's a rat-trap, and you've been caught!

There are three new movies op'ning tonight,
A baseball game, a championship fight,
A big band concert under the stars,
And a rodeo, Midget racing cars,
For some gals and gents the above events
hold their own vicarious charms,
But I'd rather go to a place I know,
Where I can hold you in my arms!

Chorus:

Hey there cutes, put on your dancin' boots and come dance with me,
Come dance with me, what an evening for some terpsichore.
Pretty face, I know a swingin' place, so come dance with me,
Romance with me on a crowded floor.

And while the rhythm swings, what lovely things I'll be sayin',
For what is dancing but making love set to music, playin'.

When the band begin to leave the stand and folks start to roam,
As we wing home, cheek to cheek we'll be,
Come on, come on, come on, come on and dance with me

[Repeat, but instead substitute the following words line 1:
dancin/Basie, line 5: lovely/cuckoo, line 8: wing/waltz and the first
3 "come on"'s in the last line are repeated.]

Sinatra: Come Dance with Me

Shall We Dance?
Lyrics: Ira Gershwin Music: George Gershwin

Drop that long face
Come on have your fling
Why keep nursing the blues?
If you want this old world on a string
Put on your dancing shoes
Stop wasting time
Put on your dancing shoes
Watch your spirits climb

Shall we dance
Or keep on mopin'?
Shall we dance
And walk on air?
Shall we give in to despair?
Or shall we dance with never a care?
Life is short
We're growing older
Don't you be an also-ran
You'd better dance, little lady
Dance, little man
Dance whenever you can.

This is nice, isn't it? I mean - the music.
This is nice, isn't it? I mean - the band.
Don't you think we make natural partners?
I mean, like food and drink, or supply and demand.

We're so right, aren't we? I mean - for dancing.
Hold me tight, cling to me! I mean - my hand.
I feel fine, I'm aglow with the Sunday shine
Could I be falling in - I mean to say, well anyway...
Isn't it grand?

Isn't It? - Stephen Sondheim

Drink to me only with thine eyes
And I will pledge with mine.
Or leave a kiss within the cup
And I'll not ask for wine.
The thirst that from the soul doth rise
Doth ask a drink divine;
But might I of Jove's nectar sip,
I would not change for thine.

I sent thee late a rosy wreath,
Not so much hon'ring thee
As giving it a hope that there
It could not withered be;
But thou thereon did'st only breathe,
And sent'st it back to me,
Since when it grows and smells, I swear
Not of itself, but thee.

Ben Johnson's poem "To Cecilia" set to music by ? disputed, interesting provenance.
