This is sure to drive all the icon-haters crazy! ANIMATED emoticons! Truth be told, I don't know how civility survives on a board with some of these things available!

Here they are:
http://www.plagiarist.com/forums/post.php?action=newthread&fid=1

And here's their designations:
http://www.plagiarist.com/forums/faq.php?page=messages#6

I think we could put the "playing-the-violin" to good, and frequent, use around here! And with the Gutter Police on hiatus, I think the "boobies" (yes, that's right, folks!) would get a lot of mileage around here, too!

(by the way, I have a problem with this site and it's name for obvious reasons, but that, as they say, is a whole nother story...so let's leave that discussion alone and stick to the FUN!)
[Edit] Oh, I see we already have this discussion going on Misc.!

Nothing comes up -- I just get a blank page on both links. ):

(the above is a left-handed unsmiley)

I usually use Netscape. Would it help if I tried Exploder?

I don't use Netscape meself, but I use Explorer and got in - so I don't know if that's the key - but it might be worth a try.

There are some fierce funny ones in there. There's one with a little fella shooten with 2 big guns. I'm not a violint teddy or anthin, but it's awful funny ta look at.

John Woo is most well known as the director of The Matrix. However, he has directed a multitude of fast-paced, bullet-ridden movies in his native Hong Kong, and a few other mainstream movies. The two six-shooter scenes are almost his trademark.

Careful, Ted. Note the name of the site. They provide a forum to encourage students to steal literary work, even work in copyright, as their own. The site even provides a "special printing page." Puke, puke!
They'll steal your work from ya, the no good rotten...well, as I said, this discussion is already happening on Misc. But I'd really like to send the webmasters back one of their own gigantic "flippin'-off" emoticons!

Not bad, Junior Wheatgerm. Really felt some empathy when I saw this one:

CONSULTING

"If you're not a part of the solution, there's good money to be made in prolonging the problem."

Couldn't agree more!

Demotivation:"Sometimes the best solution to morale problems is just to fire all of the unhappy people."

A happy, motivated workforce. It can't be created with a few strategically placed motivational posters- it must be earned. It takes inspired leadership. It takes vision. It requires a culture of mutual respect between employer and employee. But come on, who has time for all that? Fortunately, there's a solution. When lousy leadership leads to an demoralized workforce, the truly uninspired leader finds the obvious solution. Fire the unhappy people! That fixes everything instantly, right?

I've worked for managers like these!

Thanks for the link, Fiberbabe.

Despair.com? I LOVE that website! One of my favorites (don't know if it's theirs) is, "Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines!"

Google has a usenet group service now and they have an archive of 700 million messages dating as far back as May 1981. This was included in their list of milestones

Mail-from: Arpanet host CMU-10A rcvd at 10-NOV-82 0826-PST
Date: 10 November 1982 1126-EST (Wednesday)
From: James.Morris at CMU-10A
To: csl^ at PARC-MAXC, isl^ at PARC-MAXC, junk^ at PARC-MAXC
Subject: Communications Breakthrough
Message-Id: <10Nov82 112614 JM90@CMU-10A>

Because you can't see the person who is sending you electronic
mail you are sometimes uncertain whether they are serious or
joking. Recently, Scott Fahlman at CMU devised a scheme for
annotating one's messages to overcome this problem. If you turn
your head sideways to look at the three characters :-) they look
sort of like a smiling face. Thus, if someone sends you a
message that says "Have you stopped beating your wife?:-)" you
know they are joking. If they say "I need to talk to you :-(",
be prepared for trouble.

Since Scott's original proposal, many further symbols have bee
proposed here:

(:-) for messages dealing with bicycle helmets
@= for messages dealing with nuclear war
<:-) for dumb questions
oo for somebody's head-lights are on messages
o>-<|= for messages of interest to women
~= a candle, to annotate flaming messages

So you see, bit-map displays are really quite unnecessary :->

Personnel Management Philosophy for the 21st century:

If you can't change the people,
Change the people.

Sorry. That should be the new buzzword: Human Relations Department. There's an oxymoron. Those people are neither human nor capable of relationships.

TEd, that struck a chord with me. My ex-husband changed careers after we split. He is a Human Relations specialist! I guess I should have known.

I found:
TPLAC = Tin Pot Little African Country.

Can't really guesstimate whether any of these are what you meant, Sweetie: HRRC =
HEPnet Requirements Review Committee
Hampton Roads Rottweiler Club
Humanities Reference And Research Collection
Home Recording Rights Coalition
Human Research Review Committee
Hermance Région Rugby Club
Hampton Roads Rowing Club
Human Rights Resource Center
Hazard Reduction and Recovery Center
Health and Rejuvenation Research Center.

Gee, I'm kind of tired--hope one of these is it...

Well, the listing for TPLAC did say it was from Yes, Prime Minister, but as that had absolutely no meaning for me, I left it out of my post. Is that a TV show? I'd say surely a comedy, from the bit you snippeted (hi, tsuwm!<eg>)?

Is that a TV show?

Yes, Prime Minister is one of the most popular Brittish Comedies on public TV. I work at the local station as a volunteer during their "Battle of the Britcoms" week, taking calls for folks to have their say as to which ones stay and which ones go from the airwaves. And this one wins hands down every year!
