Las cabañuelas were described to me by my Mexican mother-in-law when I first moved to Mexico. It is a method used to calculate the weather for the coming year. For what it's worth, I offer it here. The first 12 days of January represent the 12 months of the year, in order, from January through December. The 13th of January through the 24th of January represent the months of the year in reverse, starting with December and ending with January. Starting on January 25th and continuing through the 30th, each 12 hours represents one month, starting with January and ending with December. January 31st is each month, for 2 hours, starting with January and ending with December. The weather of each of these days of January is supposed to signify the weather corresponding to that month of the coming year. If you'll notice, the 31st should be a crazy weather day. In my experience, it often is. I hope each of you is enjoying the Juneness of this day .

Dear consuelo: I'm glad I don't have to do those calculations.

Snow? Again? It will probably STILL be snowing in Buffalo!
And I agree, I'm sure glad I don't have to do those calculations, but if anyone does, I would love to see the results posted here.

Whew, Consuelo! I'll stick with The Old Farmers Almanac ... they've done all the calculations for me! And since it's published right nearby, in Dublin N.H., I don't have to do any calculations for a different time zone.
