As regards difficulty in calling someone a "poster" one ought not get hung up about it. No point in going to the mat over this issue. Perhaps if you framed it another way. [Stop me!]

I canNOT adjust to calling a person a poster!

Perhaps we who enter messages on this billboard should refer to ourselves and each other as STICKERS.

This, of course, in memory of our ancestor of that name who was forever being threatened with prosecution.
(I must admit I haven't seen a notice containing that threat for a significant number of years)

I have already taken the first step down the path paved with good intentions.

And why not, dear Max? We have only hypothetical evidence - and that of the most tenuous nature - to suggest to where that path leads.
Could it not be that the hypothesis refered to above was promulgated by those who wished to have the broad, flower-bedecked, gently sloping path to themselves? This would, possibly, account for the strong marketing campaign that has been mounted, over the centuries, for a route that has little or no intrinsic attractiveness other than its advertised destination which, equally with the broad path, is based on assertions that can only be described as dead dodgy.

Good heavens, Rhuby, I actually followed The Broad Path (the explanation, not literally!). Now as to the end of that path, I feel that I have more than "hypothetical
evidence" of its existence, every time I hear someone say
Ant-ART-ica or orientate!

I don't think I care much for the idea of being called a
sticker, either. After all, to what are we
sticking? Electrons? Each other? Though I do like that
last one--I'll gladly stick with you, even if you lead me
to a dead end!

To our lasts - like the cobbler.

I make a pretty good peach cobbler. Blackberry, too, and
they don't last!

But I don't go barefoot.

I'm glad - I couldn't bear to think that you did.

....which reminds me of my favourite piece of graffiti - underneath the official notice "BILL POSTERS WILL BE PROSECUTED", someone has scrawled "Bill Posters is innocent!" (An old one, I know, but still a goodie).
