I did wonder when these names came about, roughly (my guess being shortly after WWII or alternatively post Berlin Wall when things started to get more hostile). (Sorry that I can't quote a source, but I can say that this friend was a reliable information junkie.) Anyway, I found that strange. Yes, and now that I see some of the other offered definitions, I'm aware that I put this definition together for myself because I had never heard the Communist/Socialist delineation... it still makes sense to me in terms of the degree to which countries that I consider "second world" look to the US for their lead without bothering to learn from the mistakes...
