Mary went to the party. She was very reluctant.

Much to her reluctance, Mary went to the party. (The sentence should begin with the underlined words.)

Is the second sentence the correct transformation of the first sentence?

Thanks.

Doesn't sound like good colloquial English to me and it's certainly not good formal English. Mary was very reluctant to go to the party is OK. Much to her reluctance just doesn't hack it. Much to her chagrin or much to her dismay are OK but they don't say what you want to say here.

Or, possibly: Mary went to the party with great reluctance.
