No, the attention wasn't nilas ( in fact a slang usage of nilas for 'nothing at all', see Urb.Dict.) Anyway sufficient to draw a list of pretty jolly defs.

.....................................................NILAS....................................................

Now. For the serious meaning of the word the unadorned presentation of defty defs.: : :

nilas

a) - a feeling of terrible depression or impending doom

b) - in chocolate making; the solid effluent from processing cocoa nibs.

c) - the block that surrounds a dancer's toes in a Pointe shoe, typically formed like paper mache with fabric and glue.

d) - the coin in use in northern Greece and southern Dacia before being conquered by the Romans.

e) - small water snails found primarily in Egypt. Only about 1 cm across, they are the primary vector for transmission of the parasite Schistasoma haematobium, which early causes "Swimmer's itch" and urinary bleeding, and later, in a small number of patients, bladder cancer.

f) - a venomous snake of South Africa

g) - a thin elastic crust of gray-colored ice formed on a calm sea; characterized by a matte surface, and easily bent by waves and thrust into a pattern of interlocking fingers.

h) - Nabisco's attempt at an enticing new name for a plain vanilla cookie (formerly known as "Vanilla Wafers").

**Generous entrants to this game of creativity and deceit are from: Jackie, Faldage, Owlbow, wofahulicodoc, LukeJavan8, Candy, some dictionary and Aloof Ciud Chow , a last minute new member of the board.

Voting is open to participants and passers-by. No strict time limit given, but as generally known, first guesses often proof best.

Trying to choose, I got a), so, with the help of my c)s, I tiptoed over to the grocery store and plunked down a couple of d)s, grabbed a box of h) and some b). Eating these made me feel better. ‘Beats kissing an f) or throwing myself through the g). I’ll focus on finding an e) repellent instead.

e) for me.

I gotta take F, the serpent. The worst it can do is get me thrown out of Paradise.

With a close second for D.

It's beginning to look more and more like E is the one and the vanilla cookies got their demasqué. Well, I did not expect it was thŕt obvious.

But Aloof Ciud Chow has telephoned me from the East and asked me to vote for him, as his computer went down yesterday. And it's B

results will be out before the weekend.

Cocoa nibs, is it? Funny, I thought nibs were what the ink comes out of my pen. If it's cocoa (or cacao) nibs maybe they write brown letters?

I'm going to buck the E trend and spend some Greek-sounding coins. That puts me on the D train, I guess. Wake me up at 205th Street and Bainbridge Avenue; I'll take the bus the rest of the way home.

Does that mean you live in Yonkers? In HS, I used to run track at Van Cortlandt Park. I've since moved to Rhode Island. Years later, my sons ran XC there once or twice a year.

Two little unclarities:
@Wofa, you chose F. Is going to take the D train just a figure of speech or are you sneaking in a second vote?

@Candy, you think it's G but you like A and have a feeling of doom
hanging over your head. I understand, but what's the choice here? Is there?

Oops. I guess that shows my lack of commitment to either one. It wasn't meant to be a second choice, but it was one anyway. I hereby rescind it. F it is. (Sometimes a D is only a train. Or should be.)

And no, not that far north. My bus goes up Bainbridge Avenue to Montefiore Hospital and I get off at Gun Hill Road, then walk the last four blocks to Knox Place, just across Jerome Avenue. Van Cortlandt Park is just on the other side of Gun Hill Road.

You can still find all these places on Google Maps. I'm not sure you can find the bus line, though, because all of this was [cringe] 60 years ago. [/cringe]

Eh! :-) So that was just a brief flirtation with a snake?

"With a close second for D." I understood this as being the second choice if there would be one.

Then D it will be. (Poor snake, that snake will catch up with you sooner or later)
