Thanks for the good and amusing contributions. It was a holiday getting them in and work getting them out.(Sorry Jackie,I have to get this off. You can still do a P.S.- vote for the
one you think deserving and change the score.)

a) Happy nisgul holiday, thePook, 1 point.
b) Moats and canals? tsuwm..
c) Faldage, Malysian nisgul carver. 2 points
d) Father Steve's lovely poetical definition got 1 point.
e) wofahulicdoc's great miracle which is a great laugh. No points but a medal.>> medal
f) Capitol Kiwi, first to bring in the perilous queens of Angmar.
g) inselpeter's alloy got 3 points.
i) Collins 175 years of dictionary publishing DICTIONARY:
n Midland English dialect the smallest and weakest bird in a brood of chickens
h) Jackie.Your definition is to the point : nisgul masters no foreign language.>> medal
j) Annasp, you stitchted yourself 2 points.
k) Fauve, this definition certainly lacks roots. 1 point.
l) Owlbow , distastefully bland.
m) The Fall.Fiend, medieval torture device.
n) twosleepy, I just put you on but alas as Captain Kiwi.
o) Coffebean, musicians are often left unrewarded.

The worst part: counting. Hogmash/mishtress loses 6 points:
to the lovely AnnaStrophic, the equally nasty stuwm grin, the honorable Father Steve.
Anna leads with 4, Father Steve and Faldage and inselpeter 3, tsuwm 2. thePook 1.

* Dogjob, being hogmaster. I now fully value the ones who did all the former rounds. Though it was fun getting the defs. in. I really missed the voting (nicest part to me). So I hope for a spring chicken to do the next.

a) chosen by WOFAHU
c) by TWOSLEEPY, INSELPETER,FAUVE
d) by THEPOOK
e) by COFFEEBEAN
g) by FALD,CAPT.KIWI, JAVANLUKE
i) by ANNASTRO,TSUWM, FATHER STEVE
j) by ETA,FALL.FIEND
k) by OWLBOW

The comparable original entries are four posts down.
A little additional search.

And just what does nizgul mean?

Or does that come in some future revelation? Fun though.

if you read very closely, you'll see one of the choices identified as coming from Collins Dictionary. that'd be it, then.

although, here's a variant (spelling and def'n): link

Sorry, I held on to the alphabethical order of the entries. I can copy them here again.

a) - n (Sc. dial.) A holiday marking the winter solstice.
b) a Dutch moat or canal
c) A curved Malaysian knife.
d) The small canoe-shaped seed of a Scandinavian shrub from which licorice-flavoured oil is pressed.
e) - more commonly called a "dreidl" or "svivon," the spinning top used during the holiday of Hanukkah/Chanukah; derives from the letters on the sides of the toy, nun, gimel, hay, and shin, which stand for "Nis Gadol Haya Sham" ("a great miracle happened there")
f) One of the Witch Queens of Angmar. The female counterparts of the Nazgul or Black Riders (see Lord of the Rings).
g) an alloy of nickel and silver principally used in gem settings
h) a person who is unable to comprehend any foreign language
i) - n (Midl. Eng. dial) the smallest and weakest bird in a brood of chickens
j) type of stitch used in Shetland needlework
k) - lacking roots
l) Distastefully bland
m) n. Medieval torture device.
n) Variant of Nazgűl, from the fictional language "Black Speech" created by author JRR Tolkien. Translated, it means "ring wraith", one of the nine dead kings bound to the evil Sauron through the use of one of the nine Rings of Power. Used generically to refer to any supremely evil being.
o) In music, nisgul is the point on a vibrating string where the wave divides itself into parts, producing harmonics.

(I should have chosen highschool bookkeeping for this in stead of reciting poetry)

I appreciate it, tho' I do not know how you knew that. In each years' results is a
dictionary reference the answer?

quaintly put.. but yes, each round comprises a definition culled by the hogmaster® from some (hopefully) reliable resource plus the various daffynitions submitted by those that wish to play. you should read the hogwash® rules, which are pinned to the top of the Wordplay and fun forum. (that'd be this very forum)

in the real world this game is known variously under names such as the 'dictionary game' and Balderdash®.. link and link

Dang, I knew there was something I should have been here for! So sorry, Branny; but my attention this week has been focused on Hubby's retirement and his party, which was last night and on into today. Thanks for doing this; hard (and therefore good!) word!
