Usually there's a limit to the number of characters you can get on a personalized plate. It might be as high as eight but probably not as high as nine.

The F. Friend : There's a person at my kids' school with a license plate that reads "meshuga" which I thought might either be a misspelling or a shortening.

meshuga got 7. Which is why the plate reads MESHUGA and not MESHUGENA.
