From todays word a day:

Behead it twice: strident/trident/rident

strident/trident/rident/ident(TV slang for ID board)/dent/ent(lord of the rings tree folk)

we've played beheading words before (there is a whole folder dedicated to the topic (scroll down!)

but its been ages.. (now we play hogwash..
we've heheaded and trunkade (removed the last letter again and again.)

its fun to see what words people find!

Olly was playing by strict remove the first letter of the word rules, (self impossed) --and he could have continued to nt(netweight) if he wanted to included common abreivations)

but to go from ent to en is to not behead, but defooting.. (is there a better word? depontify? (only pont, based on foot is really bridge.. pod.. depodification?)

sorry i've been reading fun nonsense and i am in a nonsensical mode!

defooting I love it! :-)
But--why beheading and defooting? Both sound right to me, but I don't know why.

Many years ago I was a volunteer firefighter in Fairfax County, Va, and one of the many things I did was type up for posterity the handwritten notes of fire and ambulance calls into a coherent report. I still chuckle whenever I think of the ambulance report draft that said the auto accident victim's foot was "decapitated."

And I did miss the decapitation part when it came to going from ent to en. My bad.
