Really wanted to go with 'schlock' but settled on 'schism'.

I was just bringing something up that I thought would be of interest to some here. there was nothing expected, and no point.

Right, if I reacted too fast it is because the start, the point of the topic isn't very clear. Maybe you have an old, steady and proper understanding of what is expected. I don't.

Did you read the link? The M-W dictionary, instead of choosing a word of the year (as many dictionaries and language organizations do), is asking people to submit the word they think best reflects 2006.

I'll hafta think on this, too...

1. Merriam-Webster is (arguably) the biggest publisher of dictionaries in the known universe.
2. Every year, for the last several, they have picked a Word of the Year, based on word searches at their web site.
3. This year, as a change of pace, they have thrown the selection process open to vote by their users(?).
4. They probably expect the choices to be somewhat topical; i.e., relating to the year 2006.

no, I rather think I'll choose something other than synchronicity for my WotY.

Would it not have been much clearer and more elegant towards really total newcomers if the first post of this topic had looked like THIS:

Anna Strophic's:

"Did you read the link? The M-W dictionary, instead of choosing a word of the year (as many dictionaries and language organizations do), is asking people to submit the word they think best reflects 2006.

I'll hafta think on this, too..." ( and then the tiny link)

This is clear and well taken care of information.

no need for deletion, Bran. misunderstandings happen. links usually show up as blue and underlined, but perhaps not in your browser?

and, unlike Bran's blue and underlined M-W, the mouse pointer changes when you roll over a link: M-W .

Yes, they are blue and underlined. It's plain stupid. I never saw
a two letter link in my life so the image did not do its job.
I got to the site though, but did not know what to focus on. No matter, I hope you will get something good together.

oh, geez..
to circumvent another round of misunderstandings, I hasten to explain that I really *am a windows guru to the elderly, at SeniorNet .

oh, geez..

Don't worry Tsuwm, I'm out of this. I'm not retired yet, wish I were.
This is the first and only word forum I've been on and I notice it is addictive. It already takes too much of my time and I loose patience in front of an overful page of information (M-W).Too many words.
I'll show up less and slow down my reacting. It's been a nice experience.
A few more years and I'll see to your SeniorNet. Or rather go for complete outdoor pleasures.Bike,boat,swim.

I have no clue how your vitreous comments link to things technical, sir. What is this glazing you're selling to the unsuspecting aged? Please promote your pellucid wares elsewhere!

So 'Islamofascism' could get the nod, if it is official yet.

That should be in the un-word of the year category.
