...we made damn good beer. If we had made ~ it wouldn’t have been received so well–Op, Raccoon Lodge Brew Pub Art Larrance as quoted by AP

There are several possible meanings (1) polluted well (2) fluid in horse trough (3) equine you-know what

Need common interpretations, estimates of its age, etc--Thanks kindly all

I'd say ~ is an obvious euphemism for horse p*ss, itself a common enough epithet for bad beer. as in, "Boy, this Dakota Beer tastes like horse p*ss."**

you surely wouldn't use the real McCoy in an advert.

** words I think I myself once uttered. Dakota beer was green, short-lived, and truly awful.

I thought our beloved brother Dale had agreed to stop using ~ in this manner. Maybe I imagined it.

Alas, alack. Terrible habit, owing to overuse of the dictionary, I shall sincerely endeavor to overcome
