>>lips

cheeks, eyes, forehead, hands... even stance and setting. A whole complex of behaviors which belong to spoken language. Much easier, also, to learn a language seeing.

Hm, I suppose one of the differences between the experience of viewing a stage play or a movie would be on account of the set of gestures isolated by either form: facial, or whole-body. They are, then, not simply different visual, but different linquistic experiences.

Welcome back OT! Rumour has it that you've been entertaining a scottish witch

yeah, I used to have a great-aunt who would sometimes complain "I can't HEAR you, I've left my glasses on the table!"

And if you're glasses-wearers, have you never heard a noise in the middle of the night, sat up in bed and, in the dark, reached for your glasses in order to hear better?

I know I have...

No, mav, it was a scottish witch who entertained me (somewhat by proxy!) seeing as how she was a guest at one of her best friends, who happens to be a neighbor of mine (and generously invited me to join then in partaking of potent potages!)

i think the TV sounds lounder with my eyeglasses on. I guess its because i have to strain to hear with out visual clues to the text. Perhaps that is why mondegreens are more common in songs.. we often hear a song, but don't always have the oportunity to see it being sung.
