"Damn it, Jim! I'm a doctor not a..."

"Elementary, my dear Watson"

"Me Tarzan, you Jane."

These and many more non-musical mondegreens are found at:

http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/List_of_misquotations

(before I stumbled across this I didn't even know there was a wikiquote)

That's pretty cool, Anna; thanks. I wonder if somewhere they have the "true" quotation from the Sherlock Holmes books where he said that thing about whatever is left, however improbable, must be the truth.

For those of y'all who have your own websites: I found one that has the plainest and best search results page I (keep in mind how ignorant of these things I am) have ever seen. I thought I remembered the phrase blood sweat and tears (or similar) being in the Bible somewhere, and I found this site that:
1.) lists every possible combination of words in the phrase, shown in links of a chain; and,
2.) after each combination, either gives the citations or says No match.
I don't think this is a commercial site, but if it offends anybody, give me a holler and I'll delete it. I just thought that, if any of you like it, you could investigate here what it is and maybe get it for yourself(ves).

When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever is left, however improbable, must be the truth.

I'll check my Holmes, but I think that's it.

tsuwm!! [blowing kiss] I'd had the idea that that was apocryphal.
You were right, Elizabeth.

James Doohan, aka Scotty, passed away today from pneumonia and complications of Alzheimer's. Although a character actor pre-Star Trek, he was ever after known as the dour Scot, and apparently happy to be.

I didn't do it!

The NPR obit mentioned his autobiography: "Beam Me Up, Scotty." I guess apocrypha has its uses...

Well, following my nose from that initial link I came across some of Dot Parker's most famous quips. Here are a few for your delectation ...

- You can lead a horticulture, but you cannot make her think. (When challenged to use the word "horticulture" in a sentence.) This was was for TEd Remington!

- The two most precious words in the English language are "Check enclosed."

- I've been too fucking busy, and vice versa.
