purple is my favorite color.. but i am lazy--and blue is the shortest (save for red) colorname to type. and so i use blue much more often than purple..

but i wear purple, and red hats, --oh never mind that is total different topic!

> some of us post in green

and some of us used to post in green if quoting from a post but blue if quoting from another (external) source... I still do the latter always, but have dropped '[gree n]' in favour of '>' to save 14 keystrokes, nothing to do with lousy basketball teams :)

I, on the other hand, used to use blue when I was quoting a previous post and green for external quotes. Then I discovered that Dr Bill couldn't read the blue very well so I switched to italics.

Dear me, most of these subtleties of usage have passed me by. I quite regularly use the quote tag to quote someone. If I need to quote more than one person to set the context for my remarks then I generally colour code to differentiate between them.

Helen, you didn't mention the use of white for material not everyone may wish to read immediately (because it's the answer to a puzzle or is an aside).
