I think the Chinese, at one time, made bells (or perhaps chimes) from stone.This reminds me of the lithophone, an instrument I think is probably both the most amazing and the least documented of all instruments: pictures here: http://images.google.com/images?q=lithophone. More like chimes, but wouldn't you love to own one? 8-)
