Something just put me in mind of Vermont, and what it must be like up there now. Our leaves have finally turned, but the view's a bit muted due to rain. Are your-all's in full color, I guess? Tourists everywhere? How about other places (yes, including the other hemisphere)?

it is the most incredible year I've seen in the nearly twenty that I've spent here in this beautiful state. it has lasted quite along time, owing to no heavy storms to prematurely take the leaves from the trees. as a lyric of a favorite song says, "Vermont is Afire in the Autumn."

amazing, really.

We travelled the Cape Breton trail in Eastern Canada one October. I finally ran out of words and just kept saying Wow! over and over.
Someday I want to cycle thru a Vermont autumn.

The mountainous part of NC is just starting to change. Touring is going to be very difficult because of the recent flooding. The Blue Ridge Parkway, which runs from western NC almost all the way to Northern Virginia has been interdicted in three or four places, and some of the damage won't be fixed for a year or more.

There was some flooding locally too. A trailer park right near where I live suffered almost a million dollars in improvements.

In my area of Texas, the temperature today is 91 degrees Fahrenheit. The skies are sunny, and the only color on the plants, other than deep, summer green, is brown, due to lack of rain. Around here, autumn is a season that occurs between 1:37 p.m. and 3:13 p.m. on one random, unspecified day, between December 28th and February 16th. It happens like this: the leaves start to turn brown, but before they finish, a large gust of wind blows them off of the trees. Oh, sure, we try to pretend – fires in the fireplace when it’s 58 degrees, sweaters in the morning, sweating by afternoon – but no magical autumn for us. The closest we get to fall colors is pictures in a calendar.

Bah, Humbug!

Edit: I'm sorry; I spoke too soon: the high was 93 degrees.
