OP I knew Frank and Frances from a community where their
neighbors were Reggie and Regina, Don and Donna, Jack and
Jackie--recall my family arguing over whether a new addition
named Beverly Dale was a boy or a girl (girl was right).
Who knows people with memorably appropriate names, like
Mary Christmas, Minnie Moore, or my favorite Math Maddox?
I knew a Les Moore once.
I knew a Les Moore once.
I'm sure he heard a lot of "Les is Moore" jokes.
I know a Darren Luck. He's in sales. I suggested he use the motto "Luck is on your side" on his business cards.
He thought it was beneath his dignity.
I told him to put it beneath his name.
As luck would have it, Luck would have nothing to do with it.
Dear Grapho: I once got my face slapped when a gal I was
romancing dreamily said: "We'll call our first son Mike".
I told her the romance was over. She looked puzzled, and
asked why. I said: "Say it fast several times." Ten second
delay and I got belted.
I had to look far and wide for the punchline, wwh.
It may help our newer members to know that wwh's surname is Hunt.
Bingley
Bingley
I used to know a Teresa Green and a guy called Colin Nicol who told me the anagram name was traditional in his family.
Oh, and Mr Virgin and Mr Angel lived next door to each other, which was a really strange coincidence. Both those family names derive from actors who played those roles in the old morality plays. Neither name was appropriate in the least as it happened.
some schoolmates:
Chris Peacock ( actually my friends classmate)
Rabia Zia
Raj Malai (totally sweet dude)
wwh's surname
I think wwh is pulling his punch(lines), Bingley.
Which is all to his credit.
Dear Grapho: One belt was enough.
Re: "Mike": One belt was enough.
Yes. And the first was too many.
Our newspaper shop in London was owned by William Charles Drain - and he traded under his surname preceded by his initials.

Did he let you read in the john?
You will need to know what a "john" is on this side of Atlantic, Rhubarb, to appreciate this true story.
You probably know that Johnny Carson was the host of "The Tonite Show" for almost 20 years and every nite his sidekick Ed McMahon opened the Show with "Here's Johnnie".
There was a company in California at the time that rented portable water closets (as you call them) for use on construction sites.
The owner of this company painted "Here's Johnnie" on all his portables and renamed his company "Here's Johnnie" as well.
Johnnie Carson was not amused.
He sued the guy and those portable johns are nameless again.
