Jack Ketch features prominently, if transiently, in Neal Stephenson's new novel Quicksilver (published 9/23). It's set in Seventeenth Century Europe (and other places) and full of authentic, if obscure and dated, words...

I've never seen this before: Author releases new work, the first book of what is supposed to become a trilogy eventually. Dust jacket features not just the names but even the jacket designs of the second and third volulmes. Is it hubris or simply good planning?

> Yep, I also only got it after Faldage's post.

I understood her meaning the second I read Connie's post. That's worrying...

Is it still more worrying that I did also?

At least you guys are regulars. I understood and I'm still a whatever-name-I'm-up-to-now.

And I understood her immediately, also, if not tsuwner.

And, Faldo of the sometimes argumentative turn of mind, don't you think calling a little strip of bacon a 'rasher' automatically makes it taste better? A strip of bacon is not very exciting to anticipate--but a rasher? Ah! Now that's something to get up for!

That's the problem; it promises more than it delivers.

A rasher statement is hard to imagine, I'm afried.
