Heard a riddle today which appealed to me!

Q: Why should the Irish police use the Hubble telescope in their attempts to find Shergar?

Shergar, a Derby winning race horse stolen in 1983, by IRA terrorists

Are you sure that wasn't a chalker you overheard?

Shergar, a Derby winning race horse stolen in 1983 Thanks, moss. No guess on the riddle; but what's a chalker, please?

Wait, wait. Don't tell me.

Taking pictures of dogs that don't bark in the night, right?

It's good for discovering hidden stars?

Wait! I've got it. They should use Hubble because Shergar disappeared from the face of the earth.

Because he might as well have fallen into a black hole, for all the luck they've had in finding him?

Aagh!! [tearing hair e]

I didn't think mine was right; it wasn't in keeping with a riddle. But I wish I'd Googled earlier; I wasn't sure there was a horseshoe nebula (there is), but I did find B 33. Horsehead Nebula. ... There are several objects in this image. The dark nebula that forms the Horsehead itself is known as Barnard 33

AGH! So many things swirling around in my head; and none will nova into anything coherent: because they need a big look-see; because he's in the heavens; because he's Sure Gone so far; because that's how the horsehead nebula was formed. AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Because it's great for discovering X-ray sources!

It's bad enough having them staring us in the face. Having to try to derive them ourselves is a little over the top.

not being able, myself, to see in the X-ray spectrum, I think of the Hubble as primarily a "visible light" telescope. them's mostly the pictures I've seen. that's what threw me for a loop.

Puts me in mind of the the old cattle rancher who died and left his three boys to carry on. The ranch was renamed "Focus"--and why would that be?

...and if you feel like being magnanimous you can even post the answer on the remote thread called "Answers to puzzles, or, go ahead, spoil your fun!" and then let the banter continue here!
