Whilst browsing amongst the older posts, I stumbled across this one form jazzoctopus - anybody up for a revival?

It seems to me that it's been a while since we've had any games that spark creative story telling, so as resident etymythologist and piffler, I'm going to start up a little game. I'm going begin a story, all you have to do is use your creative juices to continue it. But first, a couple of guidelines.

1. Story segments should be no more than 200 words in order to allow others to develop it. (And no double posting.)

2. No real-life comments, only story related posts.

3. Each segment must end with a statement that will lead into the next. (ie. "And then he . . .")

4. Try to keep the thread in a straight line so we don't have parallel universes of the story.

If there are any takers, here's a start:

He’d put off paper training the dog for too long. Ten years of Lysoling the floors each morning was enough. The very least the dog could do was to retrieve the bucket and mop for him once in awhile. This resolute mindset was a new beginning for him. His thoughts began to free themselves from their mundane prison of preconception. It occurred to him that his wife should be able to produce more than dissonant caterwauling from her expensive cello, after seven years of twice weekly lessons with the highly touted Professor Mezzanota. He determined to…

purchase a really good set of earplugs and send that darn dog to obedience school. Today certainly wasn't living up to the expectations he'd had when he'd crawled into bed last night. The phone call he'd received at midnight...

... should have been a wake-up call. It sounded like Professor Mezzanota but the caller said it was a wrong number.
