A long time ago I heard there were two words in the English language that had three successive double letters. One is bookkeeper; but I never learned the second. Does anyone know what it is?

Disappointing answer, HouseWolf, but I found this quote

"Bookkeeper" and "bookkeeping" are the only words in the English language with three consecutive double letters.

Although a place name is not part of the English language, you may be interested to note that a dockland suburb of Sydney, Australia has this property. Mentioned in an earlier post ("Where Do You Live"), the place is "Woolloomooloo" (wool(as in sheep)-uh-mar-loo).

Thinking about Marty's response (Hi Marty!), there ARE two words that fit - bookkeeper AND bookkeeping!! Good one for a trivia night!!

Bookkeeping kind of finesses the answer. My understanding was that there was another quite different word - not Australian - that filled the bill. Ah well, I'll keep searching.
