Please guys can we lay off the split infinitives thread? its such a well-worn path and we all know there's no resolution - don't we all agree that sometimes it sounds more natural, but that if you're writing to or for a crusty curmudgeon they're going to notice it, so you must recast the sentence?

Being pedantic about words can be amusing of course!
Years ago I was working in a Children's Library. The library staff planned to put together a list of books to encourage young readers... it was to have been called
"Good Books to run into". However a "higher authority"in the establishment wanted to change the title to "Good Books into which to run" Needless to say eventually we used neither title...

Max and friends:

I've found another list of "Rules for Writers" -- enjoy!

- Don’t use no double negatives.

- Make each pronoun agree with their antecedent.

- Join clauses good like a conjunction should.

- About them sentence fragments

- Verbs has to agree with their subjects

- Just between you and I, case is important too.

- Don’t use commas, which aren’t necessary.

- Don’t write run-on sentences they are hard to read.

- Try to not ever split infinitives.

Thanks, my favourite is the "antecedent" line.
