I was wrong, not so much ingenious as disingenuous.
An exciting time at the polls. jimthedog rushes in as soon as the polls open wearing a huge "Vote for me" rosette and promptly does so, closely followed by maverick wearing an identical rosette, who also votes for himself. tswum then saunters up to the blackboard, draws a line through all the candidates except himself and the real entry and votes for himself anyway. fiberbabe, having made a small fortune selling "vote for me" rosettes outside the polling booth wanders in and picks "the pretty number in the middle". Bobyoungbalt then draws circles in red chalk round the real entry and his own, and votes for the real one (fiberbabe had run out of "vote for me" rosettes by then). flatlander chooses the wrong red circle but at least gives BYb a point. JazzOctopus wanders in a little later wearing a "VfM" rossette he found discarded outside and votes for himself. Some straight voting then from various punters, with Max reverting to form, and WhitmanO'Neill getting the hump (It was Wo'N who thought you might believe I was sneaky enough to heve two tassels in a row) and voting for camels. Congratulations to jimtheDog for gaining 4 votes, and to squid, Hyla, caradea, BobYoungbalt, and oh so nearly pi, for choosing the correct definition. So here are the definitions with their authors and number of votes, followed by the updated scores.
I will take one more round so look out for the post.

saraad
1 Real Definition: (4) A fine levied by ancient Welsh courts paid in cattle
2 Bingley: (1) The whip used by jockeys riding racing camels.
3 jimthedog: (4) From Arabic. A war fought merely to fight, as opposed to a jihad, which is holy.
4 maverick: (0) A colorful East African beetle prized as bait for fishing.
5 Bobyoungbalt: (1) A livestock pen constructed of rush- or osierwork
6 wordcrazy: (1) A group of rituals performed by a Muslim bride and groom with the help of their wedding attendants and the elders of the community.
7 Sparteye: (2) A deliberative body composed of Bedouin chieftains
8 Brandon: (1) An uncut and unstitched garment worn by head of households in India, counterpart of the sari worn by the matriarchs.
Flatlander provided a very similar definition and they both get a point from paulb.
9 squid: (1) A narrow sand bank at the outlet of a river.
10 WhitmanO'Neill: (0) A tassel traditionally attached to a Bible or Koran as a built-in bookmark.
11 Jazzoctopus: (0) A formal greeting by persons of the opposite sex
12 tsuwm: (0) A Scottish word for frightened, alarmed

You done me wrong, she cried.
You credited me for Flatlander's vote for my #5, but Max's post of Jul 31:15:16 certainly looks like a vote for 5, prior to Flatlander, which led Mav to comment on Flatlander standing with Max. Max, in his later post Aug 1:16:39 did not contradict the assumption that he also voted for 5, which is 2 votes for my carefully constructed definition. It's not the score which I complain about, however. I was elated to think that I had bamboozled Max, but I din't get no credit for that. Boo-hoo!!

Hey - didja hear about the guy who stayed up all night to find out where the sun went?

...It finally dawned on him...

How come there are 2 listings for wordcrazy on the results?
Now I have the "honor" of being at the bottom of the barrel with the big zilch and at the same time enjoying "mediocrity" with 14 total. I must check the rules again. Or could it be nothing but the keyboard running amok?

It's A Tale of Two Wordcrazies....."It was the best of times, it was the worst of times..."

Or, are you simply just "burning the candle at both ends!?"

Two wordcrazies: My apologies, I don't know how the dunce crept in - your end-term grade is safe!
And I think I got BobYoungbalt's score correct (2+2=4) even if I didn't make appropriate credit for the misleading of Max.
