"Very nearly everything in history very nearly did not happen." Philip Guedalla??
i got this gem from father years ago and was looking for the actual context. i could not find one reliable. one in German referred to a britischer schriftsteller and one attributed it to A.N. Whitehead. not having access to a major library i am unable to check all of Mr. Guedalla's works, speeches, and essays. any suggestions?

nice to see you again, Pete! I'll take a look around..

edit: here's a link to a fairly recent item that quotes your formulation, perhaps you could contact this editor..

Read more: La Grange News - Nearly everything in history very nearly didn't happen: link

editē - Pete posted twice here in July of '09; both threads are worth a visit if you're a rookie.
