OP tsuwm's useless word compotation today caught my eye and probably ear, too, since I've been hearing reports of the need for 'potable' water in southern Iraq. tsuwm informed us that compotation is the act of drinking together. I'll assume that the 'pot' is a root having to do with drinking that connects compotation and potable.
But my question is: What are some other words that have to do with drinking that derive from the 'pot' root [Latin: potare]?
