While out walking, a sign with word "sublime" made me wonder why a word starting with "sub" should come to mean "heavenly".
Several etymology sites say it goes back to Latin "limen"
meaning lintel, the overhead horizontal part of a doorway.
That wouldn't get you very close to heaven, would it?
