Another image I would call us to today is the photo decades ago in (I think) LIFE magazine of a young woman, dressed in hippie garb, her long hair streaming, a garland on her head, placing a flower in the muzzle of the bayoneted rifle held by a National Guardsman in full war regalia.
Where have all the flowers gone? And can we do something to bring them back?
