I thought harder about heart beats after I made that post, but decided not to change it, because I don't think that third (or second) beat is actually THERE. Both faldage's Indian* drums and Bean's description indicate a pause. So why do we (most of us) mentally fill it in? I wish somebody would give me an aswer. And, how many of you mentally put the "n" back in aswer, hmm? Why do we do that?
*My apologies to anyone whom this term offends. It does make much more sense to use it to mean natives of India. But I grew up calling Native Americans Indians, and since they call themselves that, I am going to take the easy road here. Thank you.
