Wonderful word, tsuwm! Thank you!

(from februare, to purify)

I know febrile is from febris (fever). Is there a connection between februare and febris? From the belief perhaps, that a fever was somehow purifying the system because the body broke into a sweat?

The Latin root 'fugere', means to flee or escape. Some derivatives of this are subterfuge, fugitive and refugee. There is an herb called, 'feverfew', that has been studied for its alleged beneficial properties as a prophylactic agent for migraine. This herb was originally called, 'febrifuge', as it caused a 'fever to flee'.
