From a NASA site about the Space Station:
"The station was hit very hard by the Progress. The guidance control
system that uses momentum wheels -- gyrodynes, as they're called -- to
spin and then, in reaction, control the orientation of the station, lost
control. They couldn't handle that kind of knock"
