From the Latin gemellus
, the diminutive of twin, the word gemellion means a
certain type of basin originally made in pairs and used for
washing hands. Those made in Limoges, like this one of
copper gilt decorated with champlevé enamel and
engraved
, date between about 1230 and 1300.
