Years ago, long before the popularity of computers, I took to teasingly calling secretaries qwertyuiops or qwertyuiop [kwer-tee-YOO-ee-op] after the top-line of the typewriter (remember them?) keyboard. To my surprise, I have seen this used, facetiously, in referring to a secretary a couple of times since then. I was just wondering if anybody else has ever used qwertyuiop as slang for secretary or anyone else who labors over letter keyboards, or ever heard it used that way?

I have qwertyuiop on the top row of my computer keyboard, too. Must be a Mac thang . Not counting the numbers, of course, but we had those in the same place on typewriters as well. But to answer your question, Juan, I'd never heard that term before. Are you due royalties or something?

>sup with the truncated ellipses..
I was beginning to think that no one would ever ask..
choose one: a) three periods take up much more room than the requisite 'em' .. ... m … << the genuine article b) … in the editing font is nearly unreadable, and that would be another ASCII code to remember c) it's yet another of my lazy shortcuts d) it's just another affectation e) all of the above f) c & d only g) a & b only
NB: the usage is unambiguous, yes?

NB: Yes, I assure and inform you it is.
Now while I sort out the multiple choices for method behind madness, here's another style question: Why are (the nurse-)-we now gleefully using smileys? Or is there a clue in the yap thread I've yet to discover?
