Dear WW: Quite a bit of exaggeration there. The condition, which I learned as "phlebothrombosis" fifty
;years ago is far from new. My mother's mother died of it from being kept in bed a month after delivery.
I think it was first recognized by Dr. Michael DeBakey in early l940s. The airline passengers are immobilized
far worse than anybody with a sensible chair at computer can get up and stretch far more easily and
effective than the human sardines on some airline flights. I walk three miles a day, and sit in front of
my computer all the rest of the day.No clots in my legs.

Oh, for pete's sake, Teresa, (a) the information was in a Californian journal which was clearly short of news (two reasons for exaggeration) and (b) if anyone sits anywhere for long enough they're liable to get thromboses.

And on googling for it, I found basically the same article reproduced in several other journals. Oh well, another stereotype bites the dust!
