I have this nagging feeling that there are more Russian authors who were also doctors, than just Chekov. Whilst researching this on a lazy Sunday afternoon, I found this quote by Chekov:
"Medicine is my lawful wife, and literature is my mistress. When I get fed up with one, I spend the night with the other."
