Without checking time zones, I have this feeling sjm, he of New Zealand, is about ready to blow out the candle on 2002. I'm hunkering down for the ensuing domino effect.

Have a good passage everyone, be safe, and let's hope 2003 brings us peace.

In England, we are just beginning to get ready for the big night of the year. Bodies are being bathed and dressed in finery, feasts are preparing in the kitchen, bottles are lined up, winking slyly at passers by. A few empties are already in the recycling bins.

In the Rhubarb Patch, the smell of casseroled pheasant, which has been marinading in red wine for the past twenty hours, wafts up to my study, exciting my cats so that they won't sit still.
Champagne is in the fridge, red wine is coming up to room temperature and the newly acquired (like, today!) music machine is primed with appropriate CDs.

I am going to shut down the machine in a few minutes, until the morrow's morn, so may I

THANK you all for the enjoyment I had derived from your fellowship,
and
WISH you, all and everyone, a good celebration of the past year and a hopeful view of the coming one, which I sincerely hope will bring peace, prosperity and happiness to us all.

Happy New Year, everyone who's already there - best wishes to those, like me, awaiting the event!

I'm going to watch The Two Towers with a friend by way of celebration - we watched The Fellowship of the Ring last year and it was the best New Year's Eve either of us had spent in awhile! (even though we spent midnight searching in the dark cinema for my black bumbag! hoping to have fireworks instead this year....)

I like the sound of Rhuby's New Year's Eve, though....Mmmm! What are all the rest of yez up to?

happiness to us all That would be nice, indeed.
Happy New Year, everyone. If the rain lets up, we'll be setting off the half-price fireworks I loaded up on on the 5th of July.

Dear Jackie: When I was ten, I had a chum who every summer came from North Carolina to
visit his grandparents. He surprised me very much by telling me that in his home town of
Greeneville, NC, there were fireworks every Christmas. I could not understand how they
were appropriate for Christmas, but did not wish to offend him by saying so. Was he then
really taling about New Year's eve?

When I was a small child we were always allowed to stay up late on New Year's Eve to watch the ball fall at Times Square in New York on TV, accompanied by Guy Lombardo and the Royal Canadians playing Auld Lang Syne, and then open the front door to go out in the yard and bang on pots 'n' pans! And with that nostalgic image I wish everyone here a Happy New Year with a hope for peace, within and without, and a thanks for the warmth of friendship this board has ferried my way.

In about 20 minutes, I'll be showering and changing in preparation for something I haven't done on New Years Eve in many years.....I'm going out, lipstick on and dance shoes tapping. I'll be wearing my Don Juan's Reckless Daughter outfit (minus the big sombrero)y'all know which one I'm talkin' about and going down to the local Blues Club where I expect to dance my shoes to shreds and laugh 'till my face hurts. Bring on 2003! ¡Olé!

I hastens to put that today is 01/02/03, USn style.

---

on a somewhat related note: I just finished googling wwftd, something I do periodically (checking for copyright infringements, don't you know), and I found a BBS where the denizens interpret it as "What Would Father Time Do?".
=P

I may have to rethink my whole raison d'être...
