My great grandmother used to call us scallawags. It has been a long time since I have heard anyone use this term. I even had a book about a little dog called scallawag. Also heard it pronounced as scalliwag.
Also I coined a term when I was young: shredick. I used it to describe the way a paper bag looks when it has been filled with buttery popcorn. Sort of , well shredick.

Dear tfriel: Scalawag was post Civil War Southern term of opprobrium. Not common now.
"Shredick" is apparently a given name in Texas, and appears on a list of unclaimed refund
checks, and on a list of deceased persons.To me it suggests consequences of trying to
use fan in place of a vibrator.

Hello, tfriel - and welcome aBoard. I also remember this phrase from my childhood. My mother used the term frquently when talking to me.  She also used rapscallion, occasionally, but that's a term I've never researched. Any ideas of it's provenance, any one?
