Well the joke is... (and it will be SO funny once I explain it...) that wearing white pants after labor day is considered a fashion faux pas according to older "rules" of fashion (back in the era when women didn't go outside without wearing gloves, etc). So I guess the humor was supposed to lie in elevating that to a bona fide taboo and also making it a fetish... ah never mind!

Ah yes, I fell into a sort of sarchasm didn't I? More like a facetious-chasm, which while not nearly as witty-sounding is much less dangerous than a sarchasm. Oh well, that's what I get for trying to engage in repartee before a proper cup of coffee.
