no deaths from gunshot in Britain this year have been from guns legally owned by anyone except the police. Makes something of a mockery of gun control

Not sure how that follows, Cap. If the only non-police related gunshot deaths are from illegal guns and the death rate from gunshots is significantly lower than in countries with laxer gun control it would seem to me to prove the usefulness of gun control in limiting deaths by gunshot.
