OP Here is more on the Great Carbonated Beverage Debate. At last, an interactive map showing the distribution of the use of the terms pop, soda, coke and other.

According to linguistics professor Walt Wolfram of North Carolina State University, the pop-soda-Coke divide is regional, and uninfluenced by race, age or income.
And note the website’s conclusion:
People who say "Pop" are much, much cooler.
